Ajmer

Kishangarh


The miniature paintings of the Kishangarh School developed in the mid-18th century under the patronage of the royal family of Kishangarh. The hallmark of these paintings is the sharp profiles, slanted eyes, and aquiline noses that make them distinctively different from other paintings of the same genre in India. The main attractions of Kishangarh are its fort and Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), now converted into a hotel.


Roopangarh Fort


The Roopangarh Fort was constructed by King Roop Singh of Kishangarh in 1648 exclusively for defence. Originally a nine-turreted fort, new additions were continuously made to it in couse of time. The different styles of architecture can be distinctly observed in the fort. Kishangarh and Roopangarh are both situated at a distance of around 100 km from Jaipur.


Kuchaman


The Kuchaman is mainly known for the magnificent Kuchaman fort. Built by the Gujjar Pratihara dynasty, the fort houses the Meera Mahal where you can get a peek into the life of Meera Bai through the miniature paintings. There is also a Lok Dev Temple, comprising some fascinating paintings of Lok Devtas such as Sant Tejaji, Sant Gogaji, Baba Ram Dev, Sant Kesaria Kanwarji, Sant Ravi Das, Sant Kabir, Guru Nanak, Khawaja Moin-ud-din Chisti, etc.



Places to see in Pushkar


Brahma Temple


Jagat Pita Shri Brahma Temple in Pushkar in Rajasthan, India is one of the most important places to see in Pushkar in Rajasthan, India. As the legend goes Lord Brahma was flying over this desert region and dropped three lotus petals that fell on three parts of the sands and three lakes sprung up, this prompted Lord Brahma to perform a religious rite, an important prerequisite for such religious rites in the ancient past was that the husband and wife sit together to perform the yagna.


Varah Temple


One of the most sacred temples in Pushkar, Varah Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It has an image of Vishnu in the incarnation of wild boar. According to a legend, Lord Vishnu visited the earth in the incarnation of a Varah (Wild boar) to kill an atrocious demon Hirnayaksh.


Pushkar Lake


The Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 flights of steps, called ghats, many having special legendary importance. Lord Vishnu is said to have appeared at the Varah Ghat in the form of a boar. Brahma took a bath here and performed Yajna at the Brahma Ghat, Accompanied by Vishnu and Mahadev. Guru Govind Singh chose this site for reciting the sacred Guru Granth Sahib. The ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed at the Ghandhi Ghat, which was previously called Gau Ghat.


Floating Lamps (Deepdan)


It is customary to float lighted earthen lamps after placing them on pattals (plates made of leaves) on the waters of the lake. This creates a spectacular view in the evening when the sacred lake takes on a mystical tint sprinkled with twinkling spot of light. Aarti is offered at the Lake in the morning and evening.




Best time to visit Pushkar


Winter (October to February ) are pleasant. During this season, temperature ranges around maximum 22°C and minimum 8°C. These months are very tourist friendly and the Pushkar fair held in the month of October-November is a major attraction here. Summer (March to July) are very hot and mercury level rises up to 40°C and the minimum temperature is 25°C. This is not the best time to visit Pushkar as the weather is very dry and sun strokes are common.

Monsoon (August to September) offer average rainfall and are very humid. Monsoons in Pushkar are not very regular and there may be many days without rainfall. Humidity increases making it uncomfortable for travelling during the day.
